ZZ Plant- Zamioculcas zamifolia

The ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamifolia) is a beautiful leafy plant with thick, glossy green leaves. While it can be grown outdoors, it makes a fantastic, almost un-killable indoor plant. It’s often described as the ultimate indoor plant due to its tolerance to low light and minimal water requirements.

General Care

Sunlight:
Thrives in medium to bright indirect light but can tolerate lower indirect light. Not suited for intense, direct sun.

Water:
Water every 2-3 weeks, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.

Humidity:
Prefers warm, frost-free areas or indoor environments.

Soil:
Use a well-draining potting mix.

Thin multi stem plant with abundant small oval-shaped leaves along each length.

Common Problems

Pests:
The ZZ Plant is generally pest-free and easy-going. When the plant becomes crowded in its pot, it can be split and divided. Gently remove it from the pot and loosen the soil to reveal the roots. You'll see they're divided into clumps, which can be easily separated into sections using a sharp knife. Regularly wipe down the leaves to keep them clean.

Symptoms and Causes:

  • Wilting plant, dry potting mix: Indicates a thirsty plant.
  • Yellowing and becoming mushy, wet potting mix: Sign of root rot due to overwatering.

Precautions

The sap of the ZZ Plant is toxic and can cause illness if ingested. After handling or dividing the plant, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
